കറുത്ത നാണ്യം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സുഗന്ധ വ്യഞ്ജനമാണ് കുരുമുളക്. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ സുലഭമായി കണ്ടു വരുന്ന കുരുമുളക് ആയുർവേദ ഔഷധ കൂട്ടായ ത്രികടു (ശുണ്ഠി, മരീചം പിപ്പലി - യഥാക്രമം ചുക്ക്, കുരുമുളക്, തിപ്പലി) വിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. അനേകം ഔഷധ യോഗങ്ങളിൽ ത്രികടു ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വരുന്നു.

ഗുണം - തീക്ഷണ, സൂക്ഷ്മ, ലഘു
കഫ വാതങ്ങളെ ശമിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കുരുമുളക് പിത്തത്തെ വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
പച്ച കുരുമുളക് ഒരല്പം മധുരവും കഫത്തെ വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുമാണ്. ഇത് പിത്തത്തെ പ്രകോപിപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല.

ഉപയോഗങ്ങൾ -
2-3 ഗ്രാം കുരുമുളക് ഒരു ദിവസം ഉപയോഗിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.
കുരുമുളക് പൊടി തേനും നെയ്യും ചേർത്ത് കഴിക്കുന്നത് ചുമയ്ക്ക് ആശ്വാസം നൽകുന്നു.
കുറേ നാൾ നീണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്ന ജലദോഷത്തിൽ (chronic cold) കുരുമുളക് തൈരും ശർക്കരയും ചേർത്ത് കഴിക്കുക
തലയിലെ ഫംഗസ് രോഗങ്ങളിൽ മരീച തൈലം ഉപയോഗപ്രദമാണ്.
പഴുത്ത കുരുമുളക് വെള്ളം ചേർത്ത് പേസ്റ്റ് രൂപത്തിൽ തടവുന്നത് വേദന കുറക്കുന്നു.
പല്ലുകളുടെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിലും കുരുമുളക് ഉപയോഗപ്രദമാണ്. അത് കൊണ്ട് പൽപ്പൊടികളിലും, ടൂത്തു പേസ്റ്റുകളിലും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വരുന്നു.
പലതരം സൂപ്പുകളിലും, ജ്യൂസുകളിലും കുരുമുളക് ചേർക്കുന്നത് ദഹനത്തെ സഹായിക്കുന്നു
പ്രസവാനന്തര സമയം മുളകിന് പകരം ഭക്ഷണത്തിൽ കുരുമുളക് ചേർക്കുന്നത് നല്ലതാണ്.
കുരുമുളകിന്റെ ഇല ആവണക്കെണ്ണ പുരട്ടി ചൂടാക്കി വേദനയും വീക്കവും ഉള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ വയ്ക്കുന്നത് വളരെ ഗുണപ്രദമാണ്.

Black pepper is a spice that is commonly known as 'black coin' in Kerala. It is easily available and is used in an Ayurvedic mixture called 'Thrikatu' which used in a variety of Ayurvedic medicines.

Pepper reduces Kapha and Vata and increases Pitta. Fresh pepper increases Kapha and does not induce Pitta.

Usage -
2 - 3 grams of black pepper may be used daily.
Taking black pepper powder with honey and ghee reduces cough.
A mixture of pepper, yoghurt, and jaggery can be used to help with chronic cold.
Mareecha thailam can be used for fungus in the scalp.
A paste of ripe pepper and water can be used for pain relief.
Black pepper is highly efficient for the protection of teeth. It is hence popularly seen as an ingredient in toothpaste and powders.
Drinking soups and juices with black pepper in them can aid in digestion.
During pregnancy, it is good to use black pepper as a substitute for chilli.
The leaf of black pepper applied with castor oil can be heated and placed on areas with swelling and pain to aid with relief.
