Mid January to Mid March
Mid March to Mid May
Mid May to Mid July
Mid July to Mid September
Mid September to Mid November
Mid November to Mid January
Inter seasonal period
According to Ayurveda, Seasonal regimen is as important as a daily regimen. It is necessary to bring changes to our eating and other habits according to the changes in season.
Ayurvedic scriptures mention 6 'Rithus', or seasons. They are -
Shishira (Winter) - mid-January to mid-March
Vasantha (Spring) - mid-March to mid-May
Greeshma (Summer) - mid-May to mid-July
Varsha (Rainy) - mid-July to mid-September
Sharath (Autumn) - mid-September to mid-November
Hemantha (Pre-Winter) - mid-November to mid-January
Out of these, the first three seasons (Shishira, Vasantha, and Greeshma) together form what is called the Northern Solstice. During this time, the strength of human beings is said to be low as compared to the later seasons. In Sanskrit, this period of time is called Aadanakaala as Prakruti (nature) absorbs the strength of humans unto itself.
The last three seasons (Varsha, Sharath, and Hemantha) together form the Southern Solstice. During this period, Prakruti (nature) transfers strength to humans, due to which it is called Visargakaala in Sanskrit.
Interseasonal Period
The last seven days of a season and the first seven seasons of the next season together constitute the Rithu Sandhi, or the interseasonal period. During this period, the regimen of the ending season must be gradually reduced and the new season's regimen must be slowly incorporated. Doing so will ensure that there will not be any complications in health and lifestyle during seasonal changes.
