Skin-care during Winter

Winter is the time that is said to make the mind most happy. Outdoor spaces such as parks and beaches that are popular with people of all ages, are always filled with people who look to enjoy the season. At the same time, increasing Vata and Kapha doshas increase the risk of developing diseases associated with these doshas.

The acute nature of Vata increases the dryness of the skin. It eliminates the natural oiliness of the skin and increases the risk of itching and cracking. These problems can be easily solved by paying attention to the following points.

  • Keep the skin hydrated. Drink enough water. Drinking hot water, green-tea, etc can be incorporated into the daily routine.

  • Make oil massage - bath (abhyangam) as per Ayurveda a mandatory part of the routine. Taking a warm bath half an hour after massaging the body with an oil helps keep the body warm and moisturized, as well as prevents dryness and skin diseases. It also relieves rheumatic pains. For this you can use coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, Nalpamaram Thailam, Dhanwantharam Kuzhambu, etc.

  • Dandruff is another villain that appears in the winter. Apply a small amount of warm oil on the scalp and massage well. After half an hour, this can be washed using Thaali or a mild shampoo to prevent and reduce dandruff. For this, you can use any oil like Malathyadi oil, Durdura Patradi coconut oil, etc. as prescribed by the doctor.

  • Excessive use of soap and shampoo can increase the dryness of the hair and skin.

  • Gently massaging the face daily is very effective in getting rid of dryness and wrinkles on the face. For this, Coconut oil, aloe vera gel, or a mixture of glycerin and rose water can be used, or you can use an Ayurvedic thailam such as Kumkumadi Thailam. To prevent cracking of the lips and feet, you can use Jeevanthyadi Yamakam, Shata Dhautha Ghritam, etc.

  • When going out, be sure to use body-covering clothing to avoid exposure to dry and cold winds.
